A look at three small-school prospects who fit with the Cleveland Browns

To put it short and sweet, the Cleveland Browns have blown free agency out of the park. They have filled massive holes and have created one of the most high-powered starting rosters in all of the NFL.

Free agency is only phase one of the offseason, phase two is soon to come with the NFL Draft. The Browns are one successful draft away from being true contenders. In this league having a great starting roster is not enough, you need depth. Cleveland has picks this season, and they need to make the most of them.

When it comes to the draft we constantly hear about guys that will make an impact from big power five schools, but what about the smaller schools? Here are three sleepers from smaller schools that can help the browns with depth and the future.

3. Darren Hall, Corner, San Diego State

Darren Hall is an intriguing cornerback prospect due to his ability to play big as a smaller guy. His transition from safety to cornerback is also pretty eye-opening to the type of player Hall is. After transitioning to cornerback, Hall thrived with the Aztecs. In his time with San Diego State he recorded six interceptions, 25 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and two touchdowns.

One thing to really admire about Hall’s game is his heart and his ability to play bigger than he is. He doesn’t shy away from pressing anybody. He’s not scared to come up in the run game, nor is he scared to come in hot at a receiver with the ball.

Hall’s ability to play physical, fast, and with a high motor is exactly what you need from a smaller defensive back. He comes more than prepared and wants to make a play every down.

His aggressiveness and physicality are a blessing and a curse. It’s essential to his game that he plays aggressively, but that can be his worst enemy at times. He often can find himself biting at most pump fakes.

He tries to jump a lot of routes to make the big play and is just overall very trigger happy. He plays so fast and hard that sometimes he lets the technique side of stuff disappear. If Hall becomes more refined in his technique he could be in the NFL for years to come.

With the Joe Woods 4-2-5 defense, you can never have too many defensive backs. Darren Hall could be the perfect depth addition to this secondary. With his previous experience at safety and his current success at cornerback, Hall could be quite a tool for the Cleveland Browns defense.
