1. Defensive Tackle

While the addition of Jadeveon Clowney was tremendous for the team, it did lead to the release of Sheldon Richardson, who was likely the second or third best player on the defense last season. He is listed as a defensive tackle but had the flexibility to play anywhere and be effective on the defensive line.

Unfortunately, the Browns were able to save close to $13 million with the release, and in a year where the cap went down for the first time in forever, it had to be made.

While this is the team’s biggest need, there are a couple of factors to keep in mind here. One – Berry has been vocal that Richardson could be resigned at a lesser value. It’s hard to believe someone wouldn’t be willing to pay him more than the Browns, but it’s certainly a possibility. If Berry believes there is a high probability of this, he could easily pass on this position.

Two – The Browns have three strong interior linemen now with Jordan Elliott, Andrew Billings, and Malik Jackson. The issue is, Elliot is young, Billings hasn’t played in a year, and Jackson is certainly past his prime. The team could use another piece to solidify the group.

Three – There aren’t a ton of defensive tackle prospects that have a first-round grade this season.  The name that makes the most sense is Christian Barmore of Alabama, but he will likely be the first defensive tackle off the board.  It’s hard to tell if he will make it that far.

Levi Onwuzurike of Washington has been highly touted and has a first-round grade by some, but I see it as a big reach to take him at No. 26.

Bringing Richardson back should be option one (at the right price), but if Barmore is on the board at No. 26, it would be the most logical pick for the Browns and fill the biggest hole on the roster.

dark. Next. Wide receiver must be a priority in the 2021 NFL Draft

Only time will tell, but Cleveland Brown’s fans should be excited for the draft this Thursday.
