Cleveland Browns continue to shine, draft speedster wide receiver Anthony Schwartz
By Greg Newland
Andrew Berry lands the speedy receiver the Cleveland Browns offense desperately needed at pick No. 91 of the 2021 NFL Draft.
The Cleveland Browns continue to clean up in the 2021 NFL Draft, and they close round three of the 2021 NFL draft by taking Anthony Schwartz from Auburn.
While this pick isn’t as flashy as trading up for Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah in Round 2, it’s still a player that can contribute in 2021, and could be a long-term solution at a position with question marks after this year.
Schwartz is the burner the team was after, and with a 4.25 40-yard dash, the Cleveland Browns got exactly that. This is a guy that can be a threat over the top and be a guy who can also hit you with the jet sweep.
Too many times last season when teams would go to tight man-to-man coverage the receivers would struggle to get separation. Never was this more evident than in their loss to Kansas City in the playoffs. Schwartz might not have made the difference between a win and loss, but someone with sub 4.3 speed could have really helped them open the field up.
Don’t expect Schwartz to get a ton of snaps in 2021 if the current receivers stay healthy, but he is a great piece of depth and changeup the team needs — and it could help Odell Beckham, Jr. take his time to get 100 percent healthy since he won’t be the only player capable of stretching the field. Look for him to come in on gadget plays, as well as being a decoy on go routes.
Schwartz will have to continue to develop his route tree and try to develop into more than just a deep threat, but with his size and speed, there is so much upside from this pick.
Many believed that Andrew Berry would be after a wide receiver at some point in the 2021 draft, and now he has done so in Round 3. I would have been more excited with a defensive tackle at this pick, but the pick makes sense.
Berry and the Browns will now rest up for a busy day three with five remaining picks.
