Daviyon Nixon’s Round 4 credentials unimpeachable for Browns D-Line
The Cleveland Browns may find some help at defensive tackle in Round 4 from someone like Daviyon Nixon of Iowa.
The Cleveland Browns have yet to find some help to fill the void left by Sheldon Richardson at defensive tackle, who was cut in a pure salary cap move, but that may change on day three of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Come on Andrew, remember what they say, “defense wins championships.” It’s not about “speedy receivers win championships.” But while this fan was hoping for a run-stopping defensive tackle at the end of round three, it is difficult to argue with a wide receiver with 4.26 speed in Round 3, namely Anthony Schwartz from Auburn. That was absolutely crazy.
Whoever heard of 4.26 speed in the third round? They say he does not run good routes and has a history of dropping passes. Still, the kid had 1,756 yards from scrimmage for an SEC team, so it’s not like he is a total mystery. With speed like that, the Browns should be able to have him run straight for the goal line a few times a game at the very least. As Mel Brooks said in the movie Spaceballs, “May the Schwartz be with us!”
But maybe this fan will get his wish on day three. Daviyon Nixon of the Iowa Hawkeyes might be one of the best available. At his Pro Day, he measured 6-foot-3 and weighed in at 313 pounds. In eight Big Ten games in 2020, he collected 45 tackles including 13.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, and even added a 71-yard interception return for a touchdown. In short, he was a monster.
Nixon was a consensus All-American and the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. What more do we need to know?
After trading a third-round pick to move up for Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, the Browns received a fourth-round pick in the exchange. They now have three picks in the fourth round. The earliest is in the fifth position. That might be early enough to nab Nixon if they want him.
