Cleveland Browns get high marks in 2021 NFL Draft grades
By Randy Gurzi
Round 2, Pick 52: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB, Notre Dame
When the Cleveland Browns started to see Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah slip closer to them at No. 59, they decided it was time to make a move. Andrew Berry gave up the 89th pick and No. 59 to get No. 52 and they also wound up with No. 113 for their troubles (which they later traded away).
This guaranteed they would end up with Owusu-Koramoah who is a perfect fit for this defense. He’s listed as a linebacker but he plays more of a hybrid role between linebacker and safety — which is what defensive coordinator Joe Woods loves to have in his 4-2-5 base defense.
Owusu-Koramoah is undersized at 6-foot-1 and 221 pounds but can simply fly from one sideline to the other. He also had no business whatsoever being around in the second round of the draft.
JOK was widely considered a first-round pick and had the Browns taken him at 26, no one would have questioned it. Instead, they got him 26 picks later, and swapping the 89th pick for the 113th pick was well worth the price to obtain his services.
There were a lot of good picks in this draft, but this is the best one they made. Owusu-Koramoah fits this defense like a glove and will make the players around him better. Suddenly after these first two picks, this defense looks competent.
