Cleveland Browns rookie WR Anthony Schwartz is picking the right workout partner

Every rookie that enters the NFL should seek out the veterans of their respective position and learn all they can.

Cleveland Browns rookie wide receiver Anthony Schwartz is doing just that under the learning tree of Jarvis Landry.

According to Brad Stainbrook of the Orange and Brown Report tweeted out that Schwartz was working out with Landry on Monday morning in Florida.

This apparently wasn’t the first time that the two have worked out together, as Landry and other NFL players have been working out together for the majority of the offseason at House of Athlete in Florida.

Last week Landry joined quarterback Baker Mayfield, wide receiver Rashard Higgins, and tight ends David Njoku and Austin Hooper were working on routes.

Schwartz is willing to put in the work and learn as much as he can to become the best wide receiver he possibly can and Landry is an ideal guy to get to work alongside.

You can say what you want about the amount of money Landry is owed on his contract – a discussion for another day – but there’s no doubt that he contributes a lot more to this Browns team than statistics might show. He is the consummate professional and is known as one of the leaders of the team.

This isn’t the first time Schwartz has worked out with NFL vets. During the spring leading up to the draft, Schwartz was working out at Yo Murphy Performance where he got to work out with former first-round pick Anthony Reidel and Hall of Famer Randy Moss. He was working on controlling his speed when running.

Yo Murphy Performance worked out the 2020 first-round pick of the Raiders, wide receiver Henry Ruggs III.

When you think of a guy with the Olympic-caliber speed that Schwartz possesses, you think of him mostly as a speed guy, but Schwartz doesn’t want you to think of that about him.

"“I was never worried about that because I know what I can bring to the table and I know I’m a receiver, not just a speed guy. I’m not just a guy who’s going to run deep or do screens,” Schwartz said via George M. Thomas of the Akron Beacon Journal."

One area where Landry can help the rookie wideout the most is helping him with his route running. Schwartz does a good job of being able to break either way with quickness and can only improve in that aspect of his game.

The Browns desperately needed speed in the wide receiver room and general manager went out and got just that in the drafting Schwartz 91st overall out of Auburn. Schwartz will be able to make this offense even more dynamic than it already is.

Being able to burn defenses over the top is going to do wonders from a handful of standpoints. First, it will allow Mayfield to uncork deep passes, something he has shown he can do accurately over his first three seasons.

Second, with that deep threat, it will force defenses to put more players out of the box, which will open up more space for Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt to run. It will also open up more space for Landry to operate out of the slot.

Lastly, it will allow head coach Kevin Stefanski and offensive coordinator, Alex Van Pelt, to keep defenses guessing as they can send Schwartz deep on the go-route or draw up and end around or bubble screen, which in turn will allow Odell Beckham Jr. to receive less attention and make more plays.

The sky is the limit for Schwartz and what he can bring to the table, especially if he soaks in everything Landry teaches him.
