3 Cleveland Browns who could be extended before 2021 season begins

The Cleveland Browns have a strong core of players but some are nearing the end of their contracts. Here are 3 of the most likely to be extended.

Over the course of the past few NFL seasons, the Cleveland Browns have done some hard work as they rebuilt a roster that was the worst in the NFL. On the heels of an 0-16 campaign in 2017, Cleveland got to work.

Former general manager John Dorsey started the talent acquisition but ended up finding himself in hot water after deciding on Freddie Kitchens as the head coach in 2019. That led to Kevin Stefanski being hired as the head coach and Andrew Berry as the GM.

With these two running things, the roster was infused with more talent, and Cleveland is now considered a legit contender in 2021. But now, the real hard work begins. The Browns have to start figuring out who they can afford to pay — as well as who they can’t afford to lose.

Surely, Berry and Stefanski have already been kicking around which players they would like to extend, and here, we look at three members of the team who could be locked up before the season begins.

3. Ronnie Harrison, Safety

Despite signing John Johnson III and drafting Grant Delpit, the Cleveland Browns shouldn’t go into this season forgetting about Ronnie Harrison. Added in September in a trade with Jacksonville, Harrison was brought in as insurance when Delpit tore his Achilles.

Then, he won fans over with 38 tackles, seven pass defenses, and one interception in 11 games. A great fit as an in-the-box safety, Harrison was well worth the fifth-round pick they gave to the Jaguars. And with Cleveland wanting to run a base defense that features three safeties, there’s still plenty of room for him even if Delpit makes a 100 percent recovery.

For that reason, Harrison could be a guy worth locking up beyond this coming season.
