With so many players added to the Cleveland Browns this offseason, there will be several veterans with a reduced role in 2021

After a successful season in 2020, the Cleveland Browns decided not to rest on their laurels. Instead of just fielding the same team and hoping to take the next step that way, general manager Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski got to work improving the weak spots on their roster.

They used free agency to build their defensive lineup and even added a new linebacker in Anthony Walker. They also revamped their secondary with John Johnson III and Troy Hill. But they didn’t stop there as they added even more talent in the draft.

With all these additions, it’s likely that several veterans will see reduced roles in the 2021 campaign. Here we identify three such players.

3. M.J. Stewart, Cornerback

One position where the Browns will have more talent this season is at cornerback thanks to the addition of Greg Newsome II in the 2021 NFL Draft and Troy Hill in free agency. Newsome should start opposite Denzel Ward and Hill will be their primary slot corner.

Then there’s the (hopeful) return of Greedy Williams who will be the fourth corner. Cleveland also has A.J. Green who they’re also very fond of.

That means M.J. Stewart could find himself pretty low on the depth chart. There’s a chance he doesn’t make the roster but given the injury concerns they’ve had, it’s even more likely that they keep him as a veteran presence that can play in a pinch.

Still, as long as everyone is healthy, Stewart is a player who could see less time on the field in 2021.
