Cleveland Browns top first-round draft picks All-Time No. 4: Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M

Believe it or not, there were cries leading into the 2017 NFL Draft for the Cleveland Browns to take Mitchell Trubisky at No. 1 overall. Desperation will do some crazy things to a fan base and their desire to land a starting quarterback had convinced some that they should pass on one of the better defensive ends to come into the league in years.

Thankfully, the Browns elected to go with Myles Garrett and he did nothing but excel for them. Yes, they probably should have used one of their other two first-round picks on someone such as Deshaun Watson, but it all worked out in the end — we just had to suffer through an 0-16 season first.

As for Garrett, he missed five games as a rookie but still showed how talented he was going to be as he had 31 tackles and seven sacks in 11 games. That was the lowest sack total of his young career as he followed that up with 13.5 in 2018 before racking up 10 and 12 in the past two seasons.

Ahead of the 2020 campaign, Cleveland and Garrett agreed to a massive extension, making him one of the highest-paid defensive linemen in the NFL. He’s well worth it and the scary part for opposing teams is the fact that he has 42.5 sacks in four seasons and is just entering his prime.
