Cleveland Browns top first-round draft picks All-Time No. 19: Jedrick Wills, OT, Alabama
2019 was a season to forget for the Cleveland Browns. John Dorsey had them trending in the right direction but they still needed to replace Hue Jackson who was fired halfway through the prior season. Dorsey, who had built some successful rosters in his career, had never hired a head coach before — and when he finally got the chance, he went with Freddie Kitchens.
In his defense, Kitchens felt like the right guy since he and Baker Mayfield had success together down the stretch in 2018 but it wasn’t long before it became apparent that he was in over his head.
This led to the departure of Dorsey — along with Kitchens — and with them out, the Kevin Stefanski/Andrew Berry regime got started. And with them in charge, the Browns finally seemed to have a great foundation. They also showed they had a plan, which included fixing their struggling offensive line.
They added Jack Conklin in free agency to play right tackle and then used the No. 10 overall pick on Jedrick Wills from Alabama to play on the left side. As a rookie, Wills proved he was well worth the selection. He held his own against some of the best pass rushers in the game and was a huge part of their success as they won 11 games in his first season.
Before long, he should be much higher on this list but for now, he’s already proven to be one of the best selections they have ever made.
