The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know including their revamped defense being the focal point of OTAs

Mandatory minicamp is here for the Cleveland Browns as their team will be together from June 15th through the 17th as they begin preparations for the upcoming 2021 season. It won’t be the first time they have held any workouts, but it will be the first time the entire team is together.

Cleveland has held their rookie minicamps as well as a voluntary OTA, which was attended mostly by the defense. The majority of the starters on offense were all in Austin, working out together with Baker Mayfield leading the way.

Now with the whole group together, the real work begins — and we also will see how this new defense looks. In fact, ESPN looked at the revamped Cleveland defense as one of the main storylines of the upcoming OTAs.

That story and more can be found in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.

NFL mandatory minicamp storylines for 18 teams: First looks at Julio Jones in Tennessee, Cleveland’s revamped D, more — ESPN NFL Nation

"“Keep an eye on Cleveland’s new-look defense. The Browns added as many as eight new defensive starters in the offseason through free agency and the draft, bolstering the talent around star pass-rusher Myles Garrett and Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward. Minicamp will provide the first glimpse into the potential of this revamped unit. — Jake Trotter”"

Eight new starters sounds great when you consider how bad the defense was in 2020 but that also means there are a ton of players on this roster that have not played together. With communication being the key to great defense, these workouts will be huge as the prepare for the season.

What I’m hearing from Browns OTAs about some draft picks – Terry Pluto, Cleveland.com

"“The second-round pick and linebacker from Notre Dame looks extremely impressive in these workouts.Keep in mind the non-contact nature puts an accent on speed and athleticism, areas where JOK excels.”"

Before diving into what he said about the players, Terry Pluto did point out that OTAs are mostly flag football. However, he also said that athleticism will always show on the field and that was the case with Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. Cleveland seems to have really hit a home run with this pick as all the reports out of Berea have been fantastic when it comes to No. 28.

Reunion canceled: Sheldon Richardson won’t return to Browns

Eddie McDonald discusses the reports that surfaced Monday about Sheldon Richardson and his future in the NFL. The former Cleveland defensive tackle was released due to his high salary but the Browns were still interested in bringing him back at a lower cost. Richardson, however, decided not to return and McDonald says thank you for the work he did over the past two seasons.
