Nick Chubb: Consumer Shopping

If you go back and just look at the other running backs that were drafted in the NFL 2018 Draft, you’ll quickly discover Chubb is running circles around these guys. No one in that draft class has had such a blockbuster first three seasons as Chubb.

To think that former Browns coach Hue Jackson had Chubb on the bench early in 2018. I’m positive Chubb’s already outstanding totals would be even more impressive without that coach’s ignorance at the time.

New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, who was drafted in the first round of the draft that same year, has been riddled with injuries and only has 2300 yards and 17 touchdowns so far. Rashaad Penny, out of San Diego State was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks and his fifth-year option to his contract was not given to him this offseason because he hasn’t produced anything of value to the Seahawks yet.

Sony Michel, Chubb’s teammate from Georgia was drafted back in 2018 by New England at the end of the first round, and his extra fifth-year option wasn’t given either to him because he hasn’t produced much.

The three running backs that were taken in the second round of that year’s draft after Chubb, including Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Ronald Jones, Detroit Lion’s pick Kerryon Johnson, and the Washington Football Team’ Derrius Guice are either not producing much or are injury-prone or out of the league altogether. Guice is currently in trouble with the law, and was released by Washington a year ago because he was arrested for a variety of issues including domestic altercations.

The Lion’s Johnson was released by them a year ago and his contract was picked up by the Eagles but to date he hasn’t produced anything either.

Logic

All of this, is to point out the obvious.

Nick Chubb is a very special player.

You don’t just find these special players every day. Unfortunately, some out there in this crazy social media world like to suggest otherwise and believe that running backs, in general, are disposable.

I believe that the Browns coaches and front office management are certainly covering all their bases when it comes to Chubb’s future with the team. And I don’t believe a Brown’s coach, like Kevin Stefanski doesn’t appreciate the true value of Chubb. Those that are suggesting that, in Stefanski’s offense, you can just plug in a running back to make it work aren’t appreciating Chubb.

Chubb is in a rare company with some past former great Browns running backs including the greatest of them all in Jim Brown.

I believe the Browns will take care of Nick Chubb when it comes to his next contract, and we will all be able to enjoy what Chubb brings every game of the year. His heart, desire, and uncanny talents.

Here’s to another “Four More Years” with Chubb!
