Daily Dawg Tags: Baker Mayfield not sweating an extension
By Randy Gurzi
The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including quarterback Baker Mayfield discussing a possible extension
Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield continues to say all the right things. Entering his fourth season in the league, the arrow has never been pointing higher for him than it is right now.
Mayfield led Cleveland to the playoffs for the first time since the 2002 season while also helping them to their first winning record since 2007. He also led a win over the hated Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs, which has him being held in higher regard than any athlete in Cleveland since LeBron James.
But don’t expect him to use all that success to force the Browns hand in contract talks. When asked about the possibility of getting an extension done soon, Mayfield said he wasn’t worried about that and wants the whole team to focus on something else — winning.
That story and more can be found in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.

Baker Mayfield says extension with Cleveland Browns will ‘handle itself’ — Jake Trotter, ESPN
"“The chips will fall where they’re supposed to,” he said. “The concern right now is winning and building a strong foundation for the season. That’s what everyone in this building should be concerned about.”"
Mayfield doesn’t need to worry too much about an extension now anyway. The No. 1 overall pick in 2018 had his fifth-year option picked up meaning he’s under contract through the 2022 season anyway. Even so, his answer was the best possible way to address the entire situation.
Is a Nick Chubb extension the smart move?
Nick Chubb also has a possible contract extension coming up as he enters the final year of his deal. Like Mayfield, he doesn’t have a lot to say about it but Sam Penix does. In his latest piece, he asks if it’s wise to pay a running back with it backfiring on so many teams already.
"“I like to have fun no matter what team I go to or where I go,” he said Wednesday in a video call with local reporters. “I’m an excited guy. I like to have fun. I know it’s a job, but I try to say it’s football first.”"
Clowney seems to really be enjoying his time in Berea and he’s had nothing but positive stuff to say about this defense. He even, at one point, compared them to the 2019 49ers defense that carried their team to the Super Bowl.
3 late-round Cleveland Browns picks from 2020 that could impact in 2021
Teams don’t typically take players in the later rounds of the draft with expectations that they will do much as rookies. Instead, they’re usually there to develop for the future. With that being said, here are three such players from the 2020 class that could be key players in 2021.
