The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know including Sheldon Richardson turning down a higher contract to go to Minnesota

After releasing defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson earlier this offseason, general manager Andrew Berry stated the Cleveland Browns would like to bring him back on a contract they would be happier with. True to his word, Berry apparently did try and re-sign Richardson but it never came to fruition.

Instead, the veteran defensive tackle signed with the Minnesota Vikings, which was the team he played for before landing in Cleveland.

Perhaps it was the familiarity with their defense that sold him because Richardson was apparently offered more money to return to the Browns but he declined. Then again, it could have been pride as well considering Richardson was just let go by the Browns, so perhaps he wasn’t keen on coming back but decided it would be better to prove them wrong.

Whatever the reason, Richardson tool=k less to head to Minnesota and that is one of the stories in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.

Sheldon Richardson Turned Down More Money From Browns To Sign With Vikings — Andrew Ortenberg

"Sheldon Richardson ended his free agency this past week by signing a one-year deal with the Vikings worth $3.6MM with a max value of $4.35MM via incentives.Apparently, he could’ve gotten a little more than that."

Ortenberg cites Mary Kay Cabot, who says in an “insider access” article that Cleveland was willing to give Richardson more. It’s not since Richardson was a great player and will be missed but overall, this defense is going to be vastly improved upon what we saw in 2020.

Can Browns WR Donovan Peoples-Jones make a huge jump in his second season? Hey, Mary Kay! — Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com

"“Peoples-Jones excelled in his limited opportunities as a rookie, catching 14-of-20 targets (70%) for 304 yards and two TDs. One of those TD catches was the 24-yard gamewinner in Cincinnati with 11 seconds-remaining, in which he maintained his poise enough to keep his feet inbounds.”"

Mary Kay pointed out that the game-winner from DPJ meant Cleveland stayed in playoff contention. He was highly productive when targeted and she even said she can see him winning the third wide receiver spot this year — which wouldn’t be a shock at all.

Elliot Kennel has had enough of the myths surrounding the Browns that have no merit. Here he looks at five of them and tells you why they’re in need of retirement.

Two critical take-a-ways from Browns minicamp — Brad Ward, Browns Wire

"“Greg Newsome’s versatility could alleviate potential depth concernThe first is the versatility that first-round draft pick Greg Newsome III has shown thus far.”"

Brad Ward, who has always been great to us at DPD, has two hiuge takeaways from the Browns minicamp. First is the fact that Greg Newsome looked comfortable and can play inside as well as out. The other was the fact that Donovan Peoples-Jones stood out as one of the more improved players. His name keeps popping up and that likely won’t stop soon.
