Cleveland Browns defensive tackle shaping up to be a dawgfight

The Browns added some other intriguing players that will fight to help provide more depth. Undrafted rookie Marvin Wilson is clearly the most intriguing of what’s left.
Marvin Wilson Jr.
The 22-year-old former Flordia State Seminole comes to Cleveland as an undrafted free agent. In four years with the Seminoles, Wilson put up 109 total tackles, 15 for loss, and 9.5 sacks. Wilson’s best year was as a junior when he not only registered five sacks but also had 8.5 tackles for loss and four passes defended. Had he come out after that season, most projected he would have been a first-round pick.
After a terrible senior year, he is now fighting for a roster spot as an undrafted free agent in Cleveland. The talent is there to end up a surprise player for the Browns, but he has an uphill climb even to make the roster at this point.
Damion Square
As I stated earlier in the article, Square is a 32-year-old backup looking to stick on a roster. This is not a bad insurance signing by Andrew Berry, as you know exactly what you are getting in Square. He has been a solid veteran during his time in the NFL. This allows the Browns to see what they have in players like Marvin Wilson and Malik McDowell, knowing they have a capable player in the wings.
Malik McDowell
Talent has never been the concern when it comes to the 25-year-old McDowell. In the second round of the 2017 draft, he was drafted by the Seahawks based on a strong sophomore campaign at Michigan State.
McDowell would never play a down in Seattle after an accident riding an ATV. He would also deal with legal problems that landed him in jail. The Browns are taking a chance on the 6-foot-6, 295-pound talent in hopes of adding another versatile presence along the front four. He may be the longest of long shots, but it is worth keeping an eye on him.
Sheldon Day
Sheldon Day comes to Cleveland after a year in Indianapolis. The key here is where he played before last season. Day spent two years in San Francisco. One of those was with Browns defensive coordinator Joe Woods.
He knows the system Woods runs, so why not give him a chance in this crazy bunch of players. Obviously, he is a long shot at making the final cuts, but he provides a veteran who knows the system to work with this group.
The Browns have a total of eight players fighting to make the final cut. While some have a history in the league, anything can happen when they hit the practice field to fight for those spots. We have already seen Tommy Togiai make some good impressions in the early camps. Marvin Wilson is someone teams were high on as an undrafted free agent.
Malik Jackson and Andrew Billings are holding the top spots heading into camp, but lots of young legs are ready to fight for those spots. It should be a fun and interesting training camp battle down in the trenches.
