Cleveland Browns: 10 trade targets ahead of training camp
By Sam Penix
5. Stephon Gilmore, CB, New England Patriots
Gilmore has been a rumored Cleveland Browns target since before last season’s trade deadline, but nothing has happened. Coming off an injury and going on 31 years old, Gilmore is holding out in search of a new contract. He has one year left on his current deal, and would be set to count $7.3 million against his new team’s cap. That’s a super low number for a player of his caliber, even if he begins to show his age. And that’s why he’s demanding a raise.
Would the Browns be willing to pay an older player like Gilmore with Denzel Ward due for an extension and both Greedy Williams and Greg Newsome II on the rise? Perhaps not, but again, it doesn’t hurt to see what the price would be.
4. Xavien Howard, CB, Miami Dolphins
The same thinking goes for Howard, who is as good as it gets but wants to again be paid like it. He’s got four years left on his deal, but only one more guaranteed, and his cap hits aren’t very high relative to other players. Cleveland is probably not the team to meet his demands, but the situation should still be checked in on.
