Looking ahead to the 2021 Browns roster, here are 5 players who could lose their spots to rookies

By adding eight rookies (plus free agents Marvin Wilson and Malik McDowell) to an already strong Browns roster, the Cleveland Browns created a lot of competition at certain positions.

All eight draft picks plus Wilson seem like pretty good bets to make the team, and that means room will have to be made somehow.

Here are five veterans whose jobs could be in jeopardy.

5. Mack Wilson

Mack Wilson was hailed as a fifth-round steal in 2019, and has been a fan favorite since then, but his reputation has far exceeded him. As a rookie, he was thrust into a much larger role than he should have been playing, and struggled accordingly. He did show improvement towards the end of the season, but was unfortunately unable to continue that development in year two. Wilson was routinely picked on and was one of the worst linebackers in the league to play significant snaps.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah may be labeled as a linebacker, but the player that affects Wilson’s spot more is fifth-rounder Tony Fields. The rookie may be undersized, but he has solid physical tools and plays the position smart. Fields will also be a special teams contributor, something which Wilson was not in 2020.

It’s unlikely the team will keep six linebackers (they’ll use only one or two on most defensive snaps), but if they were to, Wilson probably wouldn’t be No. 6. Considering his lack of special teams ability, he may even be behind Elijah Lee on the depth chart at the moment.
