The Cleveland Browns came into the 2016 draft with a 3-13 record. There were a handful of picks in this draft that we wish would have worked out better.

Today, we will be taking a trip down memory lane to one of the darkest stretches in the recent history of the Cleveland Browns.

That being the 2016 NFL Draft and the season that led up to it.

Although the worst was still yet to come for the Browns, they finished the season with a laughable 3-13 record. Their offense was headed by a game breaking quarterback rotation of Johnny Manziel and Josh McCown.

This is the season that ended the Johnny Manziel era in Cleveland.

Despite having a 3-13 record, the Browns did not make their first round selection until the 15th overall pick.

This was due to a blockbuster trade they made with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles used this pick to select Carson Wentz. The Browns received the 8th overall pick, 77th overall pick, 100th overall pick, and the Eagle’s first round pick in the 2017 draft and their second round pick in 2018.

Cleveland then traded that 8th overall pick to the Tennessee Titans. The Titans used this pick to select Jack Conklin, who has since made his way to Cleveland.

In this trade, the teams swapped first round picks and the Browns also gained a third round pick in the 2016 draft and a second round pick in the 2017 draft.

These were great moves at the time.

The Browns had a mind bending amount of holes in their roster at this time.

Along with this, it was common practice at the time for the Browns to miss on more picks than they hit on. This led to them being the laughing stock of the league that they are just now growing out of.

There were some picks from the 2016 draft that we wish would have worked out.
