3 Cleveland Browns who need a big July to make the roster

2. Mack Wilson, Linebacker
A position the Browns really struggled at in 2020 was linebacker. The team didn’t have an overwhelming amount of talent, but also injuries decimated the position. Both Mack Wilson and Jacob Phillips were injured early in the season and never truly returned to form.
The guy with the biggest target in this camp will be Wilson. He will be entering year three and coming off a knee injury. After showing some promise as a rookie in 2019, Wilson attempted to return in 2020 after a knee injury and just never looked right.
Originally it was reported he may miss the entire season, but after a second opinion, he only missed three games. Although he was available to play, his snap count was down substantially last season.
I do think a big reason for that was the knee injury. He never looked healthy out there and was never fluent on the field. He looked slow and then started to overthink things because he knew he was lacking his athleticism.
The Cleveland Browns have added a ton of talent at the linebacker position, and Wilson could easily be cut if he has a camp similar to his 2020 season.
Wilson is a fan favorite and seems to enjoy having a chip on his shoulder. Because of that, I do think he will show up and have a strong camp. But if not… he could be looking for a new team in early August.
