Cleveland Browns should pass on N’Keal Harry

New England Patriots wide receiver N’Keal Harry recently requested a trade and while he has plenty of talent, the Cleveland Browns should sit this one out
A first-round pick out of Arizona State back in 2019, N’Keal Harry has yet to reach his potential with the New England Patriots and has formally requested a trade. In the past, a talented player hitting the open market usually meant the Cleveland Browns should be interested, but that’s not the case here.
Harry could very well turn things around on the right team and he does offer something the Browns need at receiver — incredible size at 6-foot-4 and 225-pounds. However, he’s struggled to generate separation so far in his career and Cleveland needs players who can do that.
In two seasons with the Patriots, Harry has 45 receptions for 414 yards which is an average of just 9.2 yards per catch with four touchdowns. He’s shown flashes at times and can pull in contested catches, but at this point, there’s nothing he offers that players such as Rashard Higgins or Donovon Peoples-Jones can’t do.
For the former Sun Devil, the trade request also makes sense. New England already seemed reluctant to get him the ball and he wasn’t a great fit with Cam Newton running the offense. Then, they added Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne in the offseason, possibly pushing him to the bottom of the depth chart in New England.
The fact that he’s so low on the depth chart could even discourage interested teams from making an offer. Harry could end up being released ahead of the season, which means he could be added without having to make a move.
Even if such a scenario would arise, the Browns should still pass on this one. Harry could revive his career but Cleveland isn’t the place to do so.
