Mary Kay and Dan Labbe recently discussed if the Cleveland Browns had a better roster than the Chiefs

In a recent podcast with Mary Kay and Dan Labbe, they discussed the current composition of the Cleveland Browns roster and break down the Week 1 matchup against the Kansas City Cheifs.

A highlight of this discussion comes when Kay states that she believes the Browns have a better roster than the Chiefs. Going off of that thought, it would not be too insane to believe that at least on paper, the Browns have the best roster in the entire NFL.

Looking purely at talent, the two teams that would be contending with the Browns are the two teams that faced off in the Super Bowl last season.

That of course being the previously mentioned Kansas City Chiefs and the reigning champions, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There is a case to be made that the Cleveland Browns have a deeper and more talented roster than both of these teams.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs have a plethora of big names on their roster, headlined by arguably the best quarterback in the league Patrick Mahomes.

Along with this, they have Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Tyreke Hill, and Travis Kelce as weapons at the skill positions.

Although they have lost a couple of pieces of their offensive line this season, Pro Football Focus still has the offensive line of the Chiefs ranked as the 7th best in the league.

It is not a question that the Chiefs have a much better offense than defense, however, their defensive unit is still nothing to laugh at.

They roster elite players like Chris Jones and Tyrann Mathieu. They also as a unit are ranked as the 16th best in the league by Sportsnaut.com.

While the Browns may have fallen short of beating the Chiefs in the playoffs last season, with their roster revamped this season, they may have what it takes to take on their juggernaut of a team.

Cleveland has a much better running game, a deeper receiving core, a better offensive line (ranked first by Pro Football Focus), and their defense was ranked 9th by Sportsnaut.

We will see if they are able to translate that talent on paper into a win against the Chiefs in week one. However, for the time being, Browns fans can take a moral victory in knowing we have a better roster.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are one of the scariest rosters in the league.

They are coming off of a Super Bowl with another year of chemistry and experience playing together under their belts.

To add to this, they were able to resign every single starter on both sides of the ball to join the team again this season. It’s clear that they are not content with only one Super Bowl to their names and they will be coming out hungry to win another.

The Buccaneers have a star-studded roster on both sides of the ball.

On offense, they have Tom Brady, a three-headed snake at running back with Leonard Fournette, Ronald Jones II, and newly acquired Giovani Bernard. They arguably have an even deeper receivers room than the Browns with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Scottie Miller, and Tyler Johnson.

At tight end, they have a three-man rotation of Rob Gronkowski and O.J. Howard, and Cameron Brate. They also have the fifth-best line in the league according to Pro Football Focus.

Despite having such a good offense, their defense is right on par with them.

The Buccaneers have an incredible defense in which every starter is talented enough to cover in-depth.

As a result of this, Sportsnaut has the Bucs ranked as the best defense in the NFL.

It is a much tougher case trying to argue the Browns having a better roster than the defending champions, however, there is an argument there.

The Browns have a better running game, arguably a deeper receiving and tight end core, a better offensive line, and enough new depth on defense coming in to be able to topple the Buccaneers for the title of best defense in the league.

So do the Browns have the best roster? Maybe, but if not, they’re close and they’re comparable to some stellar franchises.
