Round No. 1 – Chris Olave, Wide Receiver, Ohio State

Once again, I’m ready to take the heat for the opinion that the Cleveland Browns will have a complete overhaul at wide receiver next season. Odell Beckham has been injured three straight seasons, and if he is healthy and has a killer year, he’ll likely demand a new contract.

Jarvis Landry is a great receiver (please don’t think I don’t appreciate him), but $15 million a year is far too much to pay. Rashard Higgins and Donovan Peoples-Jones have been good, but there isn’t a ton of excitement around either as becoming “the guy” in Cleveland.

Although Chris Olave will likely never transition to the X position (outside receiver), he will quickly become an elite slot receiver. Not only does he have the speed to run away from man-to-man coverage, but he also has tremendous hands and has shown time after time he wins 50/50 balls at an extremely high rate.

Some think Olave will be the number one guy taken, but unfortunately, his teammate, Garrett Wilson, will likely go before him. The Buckeyes have a talented bunch and it could be a coinflip on who is 1 and 2 in the draft boards.

The bad news is, starting over at a position is tough, and it’s extremely important to get the draft pick right. The good news though is Berry has proven he is more than capable, and it will be another extremely strong draft class at the position.
