If Rams call, should Cleveland Browns entertain Kareem Hunt talk?

With the Rams taking a massive loss before camp even starts in the backfield, they’ll be looking for help. What if they call the Cleveland Browns?

As tough as it is to lose key players mid-season for any NFL team, the Rams will have to work around a brutal pre-season and pre-camp injury, as running back Cam Akers has torn his Achilles while training.

Akers was the Rams leading rusher last season, and is a huge loss to their offense. So, where do they go from there?

After trading for ex-Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, they will absolutely be looking to sign or trade for a new running back to carry most of the load this season. With the Cleveland Browns having one of the best backfields in the entire league, could the Rams put together a deal worth shipping off a guy like Kareem Hunt?

Obviously, Hunt has shown that he can clearly still be a No. 1 running back anywhere in the league. When you look at the Browns current roster, it really can be hard to find gaping holes. Every hole that was left at the end of last season was on defense, and they addressed most if not all of them this off-season. If there’s one area they could use a bit more help, the defensive tackle position would be most ideal.

I love Hunt. He’s everything any team wants in a No. 2 running back and more. Him alongside Nick Chubb makes for a mean and nasty backfield. When it comes to the Rams and a potential deal, the only way you engage is if there is a pick or two on the table and another defensive lineman. The Rams are not anything close to a bad team or a fire-sale team, they are trying to win now. It all would come down to how bad they want Hunt.

When it comes to the Rams and their defensive lineman, they had some injuries last year, leading them to sign a lot of defensive linemen and have a practice squad full of them. Guys like Bobby Brown and John Daka will be fighting for roster spots and playing time for filling the hole of the now Detroit Lion Michael Brockers.

Andrew Berry knows what he’s doing. I’m not saying trade Kareem Hunt, but I’m also not saying dismiss the chatter so easily. If Berry is confident they have a piece in their mix that could help be a solid rotational piece on defense then so be it. D’Ernest Johnson is seemingly very capable of being back No. 2. The Browns also drafted running back Demetric Felton out of UCLA, another interesting piece.

If the offer is good enough, at the least it should make Berry and company scratch their head a bit. If not, Cleveland loves Hunt and will be just fine with him sticking around.
