3 Bold predictions for Cleveland Browns 2021 training camp
By Randy Gurzi
The Cleveland Browns are roughly a week away from starting training camp. Here are three bold predictions for what will transpire in Berea.
When the Cleveland Browns meet in Berea at the end of July, it will finally feel like football is back. Following their first playoff berth since the 2002 season and their first winning campaign since 2007, the Browns have some lofty expectations for the coming season.
They also shored up many of their holes with general manager Andrew Berry adding up to eight new starters on defense with additions in both free agency, and the 2021 NFL Draft.
Here’s a look ahead to what we can expect to see during the team’s practices at camp with our three bold predictions.
3. Malik McDowell shines
Many of the moves made by Berry over the past two seasons have been incredibly calculated. There haven’t been many risks, but he took one this year when he signed former Seattle Seahawks second-round pick Malik McDowell to a contract.
A former star at Michigan State, McDowell hasn’t played a game since 2016 with the Spartans and has yet to make his NFL debut due to an ATV accident in what should have been his rookie season followed by some off-field issues.
So why would Berry try to bring in a player who hasn’t seen the field in over four years? Simple — Malik McDowell is an athletic freak and he will show that in camp. It has yet to be seen if he can make the team, but this prediction is that he makes releasing him seem very tough to do.
