Cleveland Browns: Rashard Higgins looks ready ahead of camp
By Randy Gurzi
The Cleveland Browns are hoping to see some improvement out of their wideouts in 2021 and Rashard Higgins looks ready to provide that
A former fifth-round pick out of Colorado State back in 2016, Rashard Higgins has developed into one of the more refined route-runners on the Cleveland Browns roster.
He also shook off a frustrating 2019 campaign where he had just four receptions to record a personal-best 599 yards last year. It still didn’t earn him a long-term contract from the Browns as he signed another one-year deal in the offseason, but that might have given him even more motivation to get better.
And Higgins has been putting in the work to do just that. The sixth-year receiver has been working with wide receiver coach David Robinson and looks ready to make an impact in 2021 as evidenced by a video shared by Brad Stainbrook.
This video is short but you can still see plenty in it. Higgins has continued to refine his footwork and looks like an absolute technician.
So far in his career, that’s how Higgins has made his money. He has 113 receptions for 1,615 yards and 11 touchdowns and comes off a season where he had an insane catch percentage of 71.2. Impressively enough, that’s not the first time he was over 70 percent as he hauled in 73.6 percent of his targets in 2018.
That was, of course, Baker Mayfield‘s rookie season and it was evident then that Higgins and the current Browns quarterback were on the same page — and continue to be.
Cleveland enters this season with a rather deep receiving corps. Odell Beckham, Jr. is returning from a torn ACL suffered in Week 7 of the 2020 season and joins Jarvis Landry as well as Donovan Peoples-Jones.
There’s hope that Peoples-Jones can take some steps forward this year and they also have high expectations for rookie Anthony Schwartz who has track-star speed.
Still, Higgins is in the mix to be a huge part of the offense and it’s apparent that he’s ready to make the most of his opportunities this coming season.
