The Cleveland Browns and running back Nick Chubb agree in principle on a three-year extension worth just over $36 million which won’t hinder future plans

The hits keep on coming for the Cleveland Browns and their front office.

As reported by Adam Schefter, the Browns and stud running back Nick Chubb have agreed in principle on a three-year extension worth $36.6 million, with $20 million guaranteed.

The deal would make Chubb the ninth highest-paid running back in the NFL.

Chubb, who was entering the final year of his rookie contract, can now focus solely on football entering his fourth season. With his contract extension behind him, Chubb can get back to what he truly loves.

Throughout the offseason, Chubb has been posting unreal workout videos as he was readying his body for the year to come. Now, the fourth-year ball carrier can truly be all about that work.

This newly-inked deal is a win-win for both the organization and the pro bowl running back. Chubb gets a heavy salary increase and will have the opportunity at another big contract while he could conceivably still be in his athletic prime.

The Browns lock down a pivotal piece of their offensive identity while not breaking the bank, allowing wiggle room for other looming contracts in the very near future.

The Browns organization appears to be in perfect lockstep during the 2021 offseason. Earlier in the day, the Browns owner, Jimmy Haslam, announced they reached a five-year contract extension with chief strategy officer Paul DePodesta.

That means that general manager Andrew Berry, head coach Kevin Stefanski, and DePodesta are now under contractual alignment. It is no coincidence that Chubb’s contract extension was agreed upon shortly thereafter.

The Browns front office knows exactly what direction they want to head in, and Chubb was an interval piece to that puzzle, and they were able to land him on a team-friendly deal that won’t hinder their future extensions.

With that being the case, expect more contract extensions to be announced during training camp.
