3 Cleveland Browns who will outperform their 2021 contract
By Randy Gurzi
1. Jadeveon Clowney, EDGE
One of the biggest signings this offseason for the Cleveland Browns was when they convinced former No. 1 pick Jadeveon Clowney to put his name on the dotted line. One of the players they went after in 2020, Clowney ended up agreeing to a one-year deal with the Browns this offseason worth roughly $8 million.
According to Over The Cap, he’s slated to make roughly $3.8 million this season with the rest being spread over the next couple of years. Even if they were to put the entire amount on this season, the Browns would be getting more than they’re paying for — provided he stays healthy that is.
Clowney is one of the absolute best defensive ends in the NFL. He’s often criticized for not getting the job done when it comes to rushing the passer but that doesn’t mean he’s not disruptive. He simply causes havoc and is impossible to block one-on-one and that might be what opposing teams have to do in 2021 since he and Myles Garrett will be on the same defensive line.
After playing just eight games in 2020 for the Tennessee Titans and recording zero sacks, Clowney will also come into this season highly motivated to prove that he can not only get the job done but that he deserves another big contract as well ahead of the 2022 season.
