The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news, including a look at Baker Mayfield struggling with a defense that was playing lights out

Tuesday was the first padded practice for the Cleveland Browns which gave reporters a better look at what the team would look like when the regular season kicked off.

One thing that stood out was the struggles for Baker Mayfield and the offense.

Of course, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing since it means the defense was playing well. This story and more can be found in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.

Baker Mayfield has a tough day while Jadeveon Clowney and the defense shine: Walkoff thoughts from Browns training camp — Cleveland.com staff

"“They went red-zone heavy in most of their team drills and quarterback Baker Mayfield and the offense had their struggles during the practice. Of course, if the offense struggles, it means the defense played well, so it’s not all bad.”"

Offenses being behind the defense at this point in the season is the norm. That was also the case in 2020 and in the end, we all saw that the Browns offense was by far the superior unit. There’s nothing to worry about yet. Instead, we should be thrilled about how the defenders looked.

Rashard Higgins has ‘all motivation’ necessary to help Browns reach goals — Anthony Poisal, ClevelandBrowns.com

"“I feel like we’re all in competition,” he said. “We all feed off each other, but at the end of the day, we are all out here to get better. There is no competition. I’m going to root on for the next man, just like how he is going to root on for me.”"

Higgins said he’s motivated by the team’s playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and that fuels him to be even better in 2021. He has some competition around him — especially with second-year wideout Donovan Peoples-Jones — but should still be able to put up some good numbers as long as he gets his snaps.

Cleveland Browns: Is the injury bug already appearing?

The Browns are already dealing with some injury concerns with Anthony Walker and Ronnie Harrison, Jr. getting banged up early. Hopefully this isn’t a sign of things to come — because Cleveland had enough issues with injuries in 2020.
