The Cleveland Browns seventh practice is in the books and this time, the offense was in control with Donovan Peoples-Jones providing the spark

When the pads came on for the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday, the defense proved to have the upper hand. On Wednesday, things were different.

While the offense didn’t dominate the entire day, they were able to perform much better than they did on Tuesday and the player who stood out the most was none other than second-year wideout Donovan Peoples-Jones.

If that sounds familiar, it’s because it should.

Peoples-Jones is a player who has been showing out all camp and Wednesday was just another example of him putting his skills on display. Speaking about the performance from No. 11, Andrew Gribble from ClevelandBrowns.com said he not only had the top play from the session, but said he’s becoming “impossible to ignore.”

"“The biggest play of the day — and, perhaps, all of training camp thus far — came midway through the practice when Mayfield found Peoples-Jones racing down the sidelines for a 70-yard touchdown pass. Peoples-Jones created plenty of separation between himself and his defender, and Mayfield put it right where it needed to be.” — Gribble on Donovan Peoples-Jones"

Gribble also quoted wide receiver coach Chad O’Shea who was incredibly complimentary of DPJ, adding that the leap from year one to year two is often huge for NFL players. And he expects that to be the case with this young wideout.

As a rookie, Peoples-Jones had just 14 receptions but did a lot of damage with those opportunities. He finished with 304 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 21.7 yards per catch which was the most for any rookie.

The sixth-round pick was also the player who hauled in the game-winning touchdown against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 7 that capped off one of the best performances we have ever seen from Baker Mayfield.

Heading into this season, he’s become a player to watch with several outlets — including Dawg Pound Daily — pointing to him as a potential breakout star.

There’s still a lot to prove but so far, Peoples-Jones has done absolutely everything he can to get more opportunities in 2021.
