Six former Cleveland Browns who may have played their last down in the NFL

Many players have suited up for the Cleveland Browns over the past decade, and the roster was churned particularly well during the Sashi Brown years.

Many of those players are retired, and more are approaching that point.

Here are six who are still officially active, but who may receive no further interest from teams.

6. Robert Griffin III

It seems like an eternity ago that Hue Jackson felt the earth move beneath his feet while watching RGIII during a workout, but it was only 2016 when that happened. The former second overall pick had an electric rookie campaign in 2012, proving himself to be perhaps the best dual-threat quarterback since Michael Vick.

Unfortunately, egregious mismanagement by the coaching and medical staff led to him blowing up his knee in the playoffs, and he was never the same after that. He was eventually benched for Kirk Cousins in Washington, and signed with Cleveland in an attempt to rejuvenate his career.

In what was perhaps the most predictable beginning of all time, Griffin suffered an injury in Week 1, and didn’t play again until Week 13, ending the season with two touchdown passes and three interceptions.

After sitting out all of 2017, Griffin has spent the past three seasons backing up Lamar Jackson with the Baltimore Ravens, taking a total of 221 snaps. He is now a free agent, and just inked a broadcast contract with ESPN, indicating his next career choice. There is reportedly a clause that will let him play football still, but that’s in case of NFL interest, and the timing of the move seems to imply there isn’t a whole lot of that at the moment. Griffin will go down as one of the league’s biggest “what-if” stories and was truly a special talent before injuries took their toll.
