2. Buster Skrine
A fifth-round pick back in 2011, Skrine struggled mightily during his first few seasons in Cleveland, but developed into a quality NFL defensive back, and made nearly $40 million over his 10-year career, which is extremely impressive for such a late selection. He spent four years with the Browns, four with the New York Jets, and played the last two years for the Chicago Bears.
Given his performance with the Browns, it was a bit odd to see the Jets give him $25 million over four years, but the Jets have done more than their fair share of odd things. Following the end of that contract, Skrine signed with the Bears for $16.6 million over three years, but was cut after two seasons. He’s now 32 years old, and could be done, unless a team loses a corner in camp and Skrine is willing to play on the veteran’s minimum.
If you had asked Browns fans back in 2013 if Skrine would still be playing in 2020, nearly all of them would likely have answered with an immediate “no”. But the NFL is a strange and interesting place. Skrine has done quite well for himself, and good for him.
Also, his given first name is Darryl.
