3 Cleveland Browns whose stock dropped after preseason Week 1
By Greg Newland
Greedy Williams & Cody Parkey
At this point, I don’t see any reason that Greedy Williams or Cody Parkey don’t make this roster. Both have been strong players for the Browns and Parkey looks to be the starting kicker for the season. However, the doink of the upright last night was not what he needed (although a single doink that goes in is better than a double doink that does not).
He made the kick, but he has become infamous for this type of thing. What hurts him more than anything, the strong performance by backup kicker, Chase McLaughlin.
Again, I’m not saying Parkey lost his spot on the team last night, but he better sharpen up his performance in game two, or he could quickly see his spot on the roster sliding away.
Williams was also slightly disappointing last night. All camp we have heard how he is playing with a different type of fire, but it was very apparent he was a guy that hadn’t played football in over a year.
This is not shocking, after a serious injury and not playing, it’s going to take a little bit of time for him to get his rhythm back, and to trust his body. Williams may struggle to get a starting position because of how good the rookie, Greg Newsome looked, but it’s important he continues to show improvement each week of the preseason.
Week two will be a huge week to see how each of these guys to improve to solidify their spots.
