2. J.O.K. is going to be elite from day 1 for the Cleveland Browns

There’s no denying that second-round pick Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah looked fantastic in the first preseason game. He was flying all over the field and finished with a team-high eight tackles (seven of which were solo), three tackles for a loss, and one sack.

A hybrid-linebacker who has the ability to drop deep in coverage showed his ability near the line of scrimmage in this one. And while the Browns should be ecstatic about what they saw especially considering he just came back from the COVID list, we should pump the brakes on crowning him the new leader of this defense.

One day, he will likely be there. But right now, he’s a rookie who was out there with backups and looked like what he is — someone who was superior athletically to the players he was on the field with. Instead of anointing him the defensive savior, we need to be clamoring for the Browns to do as DPD’s own Grant Puskar said, and put him on the field with the starters in their upcoming game.

JOK has all the makings of a star in this league but he won’t get there overnight. When he’s playing against opposing starters, he won’t be as dominant as he was in this one — but that’s not a negative thing, just a call to make sure we don’t put too much on him too quick.
