5. S Juan Thornhill

Many Browns fans wanted Thornhill in Cleveland, but the Chiefs scooped him up the with 63rd pick in 2019. He started every game as a rookie, displaying excellent range and coverage skills. After coming back from a torn ACL, he started only eight games in 2020, and played just 18 snaps in the Super Bowl.

He’s been dealing with a groin injury in training camp and is reportedly getting reps with the third-team defense for some reason. If the Chiefs, who don’t have a great secondary to begin with, aren’t willing to let Thornhill play a significant role, the Browns should jump at the chance. Perhaps he isn’t even available, but if he is, Cleveland would do well to add another elite athlete to their secondary, especially considering the injury histories of their starters.

4. EDGE Clelin Ferrell

Ferrell was a fine prospect in 2019, but it was a huge surprise to see him go fourth overall. He has just 6.5 career sacks to his name, including only two in 2020. His pressure rate is just 9%, and he isn’t even a starter, running with the second team in camp as 2019 third-rounder Maxx Crosby and free-agent signing Yannick Ngakoue practice with the 1’s.

Would Mike Mayock admit a mistake after two years? Maybe, maybe not. But if Ferrell could be landed for relatively cheap, say, a second-round pick and change, perhaps he could be a cheap complement to Myles Garrett for three years before turning into a compensatory pick.
