4 bubble players the Cleveland Browns should target
By Greg Newland
No. 1 – Joe Haden, Cornerback
This last one could make a lot of fans happy, but you must understand the player you are getting in 2021, not 2013. Joe Haden has bounced back compared to his last few years in Cleveland when he couldn’t stay on the field, but now he finds himself in a situation where he makes a lot of money on a team with no cap space.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been dominant for so long, but now find those aging contracts catching up, and the $7 million dollar savings by releasing Haden may be more attractive than keeping the 11-year veteran.
The big question here would be, does Joe want to come to Cleveland? He would have to understand that he is likely competing for a backup role behind Greg Newsome and Denzel Ward, and the organization would have to be ready to move on from Greedy Williams.
I honestly think all the scenarios above are possible, and if winning is important, Haden could reunite with the Cleveland Browns. Remember, Ward and Newsome have both dealt with injuries in the past, so Haden would know there is likely playing time to be had, even has the third corner.
Maybe I’m dreaming because I was a fan of Haden, but cornerback is a position where the Browns have a ton of talent currently, but no one that I trust to stay healthy for a full season.
