The Cleveland Browns roster was trimmed down to 53 players. Here are a few takeaways from their initial selection of players to start the 2021 season.

The predictions are over. We now know what the initial 53-man Cleveland Browns roster for the 2021 season is.

On Tuesday, the Browns trimmed down to 53 players and there was no shortage of newsworthy moves. From surprising cuts to interesting names being kept on the roster, there was a lot to talk about.

Here we look at three of the biggest takeaways from the night, starting with the fact that this roster is anything but final.

3. There will still be changes to the Browns roster

We know right off the bat that there will be some changes to this roster. Cleveland went deep at linebacker and offensive line while also going thin at defensive end. At linebacker, this will change when they move Jacob Phillips to the IR — with the designation to return. There’s also a chance Tony Fields could be headed that way as well.

On the offensive line, they could do the same thing with Chris Hubbard. One of their best reserves on the entire team in 2020, Hubbard suffered a serious knee injury last December and the news about his recovery has been vague. If he’s still not ready to practice, he could be headed to the IR for some time.

There was also the Sheldon Day move. The veteran defensive tackle deserved a spot but was released. However, he could come back — much like what they did with Greg Robinson in 2019.

Lastly, they went thin at the defensive end position. Whether it be through the waiver wire or trade, there should be at least one more player added there. Whatever it is they do, this roster will be evolving all year and that includes several moves coming before they prepare for Kansas City in Week 1.
