Some of the players who were recently waived, as well as others around the league, could be joining the Cleveland Browns through their 16-man practice squad.

As was the case in 2020, the Cleveland Browns practice squad will consist of 16 players. In years past, the NFL has only allowed 10 players on each team’s squad and they all had to have less than three vested years in the league.

In a response to the Coronavirus pandemic, the league elected to add six players to each squad, and for those six, there are no restrictions on the amount of time they can be in the league.

That’s why the Browns were able to keep Cody Parkey on the squad last season, which gave them a familiar face to bring to the active roster when Austin Seibert was let go.

Now that teams have trimmed their rosters to 53 players and waivers claims have been awarded, teams are getting to work signing their 16 players.

Only KhaDarel Hodge and Colby Gossett were claimed which means the majority of the players waived by the Browns were available to sign to the squad — and they waisted no time  bringing some of their guys back.

Cleveland started things out by re-signing defensive end Porter Gustin, who has 43 tackles over the past two seasons for Cleveland. They also brought back Johnny Stanton, Elijah Lee, and Jordan Franks.

Here’s a list of the moves the Browns have made in filling out their practice squad.

dark. Next. 3 takeaways from initial 53-man roster

The Browns relied on their practice squad a lot in 2020 due to injuries and players being placed on the COVID-19 list. That means these players could end up playing a huge role in 2021, even if they’re not on the active 53-man roster.
