The Cleveland Browns landed no waiver claims after the initial cut to 53 players and lost KhaDarel Hodge to Detroit

Back when the Cleveland Browns were picking first in every NFL Draft, they also had the No. 1 position in waivers. This allowed them to have their pick of every player who was released on cut-down day, which had its perks.

It also had its drawbacks. The reason they had this positioning was due to the fact that their roster wasn’t very good to begin with. That meant they were in need of an infusion of talent and at times, they were grasping at straws in the waiver world.

Now with a vastly improved roster, they’re one of the last teams in the waiver order but they also don’t need to use this as a way of building their roster. Instead, they can scour the names to look for someone who they believe can be developed into something down the road.

In the end, however, the Browns ended up being awarded no one on waivers. It’s likely they made no claims at all, but if they did, they were too far down the list to end up with any one.

As for the players waived by Cleveland on Tuesday, that was a different story. The Browns saw two waived players land with new teams with wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge going to the Detroit Lions and offensive lineman Colby Gossett being claimed by the Atlanta Falcons.

Cleveland Browns roster too crowded for Hodge

Hodge was a special teams ace who thrived at receiver in the preseason. Cleveland apparently wanted him back on the practice squad but that won’t happen since he was claimed by Detroit.

For Hodge, this could end up being a great landing spot when it comes to his individual opportunities.

Detroit has one of the worst wide receiving corps in the NFL which should allow him to get on the field more than he would in Cleveland.

Gossett could also find more chances in Atlanta. Their offensive line isn’t nearly as deep as the Browns, which could help him make the most of his career going forward.
