The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including a look at whether or not Malik McDowell and JOK should start Week 1

Now that all the roster moves are behind us, we can focus on the Cleveland Browns Week 1 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

As is often the case, the schedule makers in the NFL try and make the opening week entertaining and they have done that by pitting the Browns and Chiefs together for a rematch of their Divisional Round matchup from a season ago.

Kansas City narrowly won that and the Browns are now out for a bit of revenge. They would also like to dampen the plans to go 20-0 that Patrick Mahomes says the Chiefs have.

Looking ahead to that game, Mary Kay Cabot has a suggestion for how to stay in the game this go around — start Malik McDowell and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. It might sound unorthodox but the fact is, the Chiefs are a team that loved to air the ball out, and those two offer better support in the passing game.

That story and more can be found in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.

Why the Browns should start Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and Malik McDowell against the Chiefs: Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com

"“If the two start at Arrowhead, they’ll be among eight or nine new starters on the overhauled unit, depending on the formation. And even though both of them have a long way to go, they’re too talented to come off the bench in such a big game.”"

It would make a lot of sense to go with these two since the Chiefs are a pass-happy team. Malik McDowell can provide a pass rush from the interior and JOK is solid in coverage. Yes, they will need to stop the run when Kansas City does put the ball on the ground but first and foremost, they have to slow Patrick Mahomes down.

Kevin Stefanski discusses Myles Garrett, Rashard Higgins in press conference: Transcript — Scott Patsko, Cleveland.com

"“With Rashard, I can only go on what I know. He was inactive for a bunch of games early in the season, never complained, did whatever was asked of him and then gets in the game and produces. That is a testament to how hard he works”"

Higgins has done nothing but rise to the challenge each and every time he’s called upon. He doesn’t jump off the tape when it comes to speed or athleticism but he just knows how to get open and seems to always make the play.

5 most surprising players the team didn’t cut — Chad Porto, Factory of Sadness

"“There’s no doubt he’s a part of the team now. Malick McDowell is a man with an awful checkered past. He’s been arrested four times for a variety of offenses, all while getting bounced out of Seattle without ever playing a game for the Seahawks.”"

The guys at Factory of Sadness do some good work but adding Malik McDowell as a surprise to make the team is a bit of a head-scratcher. Yes, he started the season as a long shot but by the end of the preseason, he was the best defensive tackle on the field.
