2022 Browns Mock draft: Treylon Burks adds offensive firepower
By Randy Gurzi
There could be some changes to the wide receiver corps coming in the future, which is why Treylon Burks is the choice in this 2022 Cleveland Browns mock draft
With the NFL expanding the regular season to 17 games and trimming the preseason down to three, it’s given us a week off before the football games that count begin. That helps the Cleveland Browns as they prepare for a rematch with the Kansas City Chiefs, but it leaves those of us who love talking football with some space to fill.
For some, like myself, that void can often be occupied by looking ahead to the following year’s draft — because it’s never too early for draft talk.
In just two seasons as the general manager, Andrew Berry has done a fantastic job building the Browns roster and while he’s been using free agency as a supplement, his selections in the draft have stood out.
Here we try and predict what Berry could do in 2022 with this aggressively early seven-round 2022 Cleveland Browns mock draft.
Browns Mock Draft Round 1 pick: Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas
This is a huge season for the Cleveland Browns wide receivers. It was no secret that they struggled to get separation against the Chiefs in their playoff loss that ended their 2020 campaign.
The front office elected not to do a whole lot to address this, outside of taking Anthony Schwartz in Round 3. Instead, they’re banking on Odell Beckham, Jr. getting healthy and the development of Donovan Peoples-Jones to provide more explosion in the passing game.
Having said that, DPJ is far from being a No. 1 wideout — not saying he can’t be one day should he continue to develop, but he’s not there yet — and Beckham hasn’t been truly healthy since before he wore the orange and brown.
That’s why it feels like a safe bet that Berry will take a wide receiver early as he aims to keep the offensive cupboard full. In this Browns mock draft, the player selected is Treylon Burks from Arkansas.
Burks is built like a tank at 6-foot-3 and 225-pounds but he can still get deep — evidenced by his average of 16.2 yards per catch in two seasons. He enters his junior year on the verge of breaking out and if he does, he will be a day one pick and will be exactly what the Browns need.
