The Cleveland Browns are considered Super Bowl contenders in 2021. The defense will have to show up big in week one to start their journey.

Well Cleveland Browns fans, the moment you have been waiting for since January is finally here. It’s game week, as the Browns will head to Kansas City to take on the defending AFC Champions. This will be no easy task, but if you want to be the best, you must beat the best. What better way to start the season than a victory against one of the Super Bowl favorites?

Remember, the Browns ended their 2020 season in Kansas City as they lost a nail-biter in the divisional round of the playoffs. Patrick Mahomes left the game in the second half, but the Browns defense couldn’t get off the field to give Baker Mayfield and company a shot at a game-winning drive.

Expectations are higher than ever this season. Andrew Berry put a huge emphasis on improving the defense this offseason, and the Browns return every single starter from an offense that was extremely efficient in 2020. Let’s not forget, the offense will also get superstar wide receiver, Odell Beckham, back from injury and fully healthy.

Will this year be like 2019 where the expectations were high, and the team went 6-10? I really don’t think so, Kevin Stefanski is too good of a coach to let that happen. However, if this team wants to truly compete for a championship, there will have to be some major improvements on the defensive side of the ball from last year.

Here are three defensive storylines to follow as the Cleveland Browns gear up to face the high-flying Chiefs.
