First Overreaction – Anthony Schwartz will be the OROTY

Anthony Schwartz was a huge sleeper in the 2021 NFL Draft. An absolute speedster, Schwartz already had a polished route tree and the hands to be a legitimate deep threat in the NFL.

Schwartz balled out against the Chiefs, logging three catches for 69 yards along with one rush for 17 yards. If he continues to play at that pace, he’ll have over 1,400 all-purpose yards with a couple touchdowns sprinkled in there.

The rookie really showed out against the Chiefs, consistently beating the cornerbacks off the line and getting open. He only had one play that hurt the team and it was a jump ball that he secured but the ball was knocked out of his hands on the way down. Outside of that single play, he was a huge part of the offense and really allowed Baker Mayfield and the Browns offense to spread the field.

Coming out of Auburn, it was obvious that he had a place in the league and would be a major contributor regardless of where he ended up. With the Browns, he’s able to slide into that third receiver or slot receiver role alongside a returning Odell Beckham Jr and Jarvis Landry. Schwartz is a guy whose sole purpose is to take the top off of defenses and beat them in a flat-out foot race.

Should he continue to get first team reps during the games and make the most of his opportunities, he may knock Hollywood Rashard Higgins out of the main rotation and take his spot in this high-powered Cleveland Browns offense. Schwartz was one of the few bright spots for the offense and may have earned himself more opportunities in the future, it should be interesting to see how his relationship with Baker Mayfield develops throughout the season.
