Even though the Cleveland Browns lost their opening week game, there are still a lot of good takeaways as they head into a long regular season.

The Cleveland Browns suffered a tough loss on Sunday vs. the Kansas City Chiefs, but this is one of the few games where a moral victory may be okay.

It didn’t make the loss any easier on Sunday evening, but with time to reflect there is still a lot of good to take away from this game.

Here we dive in with three positive takeaways from a heartbreaking loss.

Cleveland Browns Takeaway No. 3 – The Defense is fast

Although the Browns defense gave up a lot of points and a lot of yards on Sunday, remember, they were going up against the best offense in the league. Not only has this group been together for a long time, but Patrick Mahomes also appears to be a generational-type quarterback.

The biggest difference from last year’s playoff game to Sunday? The Browns defense made them work for everything. Instead of giving up 20 yards a play, the defense made them earn everything and several times had them in third down.

They just couldn’t get off the field.

John Johnson looks to be the biggest addition to the defense as he showed up several times on the film. His one bad play was the 75-yard bomb that was more luck than skill later in the game.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and Anthony Walker also flew to the ball well. It was disappointing to see JOK limited in his defensive snaps on Sunday, but he played well for the most part when he was on the field.

Walker also played great, but unfortunately, he was put in a very tough matchup against Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce far too often and it was exposed by the Chiefs.

Don’t just look at the scoreboard on this one, dig in a little deeper and you’ll see this defense is vastly improved from 2020.
