Baker Mayfield credits fans in Browns home-opening win
Baker Mayfield’s post-game comments commend the Cleveland Browns fans for being supportive in the home-opener.
Following the Cleveland Browns home-opening win, the first game in front of Cleveland fans for the team in over a year, Baker Mayfield spoke to the media on the sideline and spoke about the team’s play, as well as what it was like to be back in front of the Dawg Pound.
Mayfield started by saying that the offense is a run-first team, and while he and the offense made some mistakes, they would clean up those mistakes and get better.
He also spoke highly of the defense for forcing two turnovers in the game, helping give him and the offense good field position that helped result in a victory.
Mayfield’s best quote came when talking about the home crowd, however, and what it was like to be back home in front of some of the most loyal and passionate fans in the entire NFL. Mayfield says that the team is “lucky to have the support system” that they have, also adding that “we’ll be back next week and have it rocking again.”
After Twitter truly saw how crazy Browns fans can be, with people lining up as early as Friday evening to get into the Muni-lot for tailgating on Sunday morning, Mayfield’s praise of the fans for being there in their seats and being loud for the full 60 minutes shows just how much of a leader he is for this team and organization.
Cleveland loves their Browns football, and they finally have a product worth rooting for. Mayfield, Nick Chubb, and head coach Kevin Stefanski have this organization moving in the right direction, but they all know that it means nothing without passionate fans behind you.
