Cleveland Browns key to winning No. 1: Myles Garrett

What Myles Garrett did this past week against the Bears was simply historic and will likely be a game we look back on often because of the incredible effort given by him and the rest of the  Browns defense. That defense only gave up 47 total yards to the Bears.

Garrett ended up sacking the Bears quarterback 4.5 times. That vaulted him to the top of the NFL sack leader board this week. That also puts him third in Browns team history with total sacks, at the moment sitting at 48 only behind No. 2 Michael Dean Perry and No. 1 Clay Matthews who has 62 sacks.

What really caught my attention in the game against the Bears, was just how inspired and animated he seemed. He was playing with a special sense of identity and it was fun to watch.

Can he duplicate the performance? I’m not going to say it won’t happen, but the chances are very minimal he goes for 4.5 sacks again, but one or two would be great.

Garrett is one of the faces of the Browns franchise and as he goes so do the Browns. Because of his play Sunday, his teammates also played more inspired and it showed by the results and beatdown they put on the Bears. Even half of the effort we saw last week in this upcoming game against the Vikings will go a long way to another Cleveland victory.

It’ll be a tougher battle this week as the Vikings have only given up five sacks this season and Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is off to a fast start and throwing the ball well. Cousins has yet to throw an interception. In his last two games Cousins has thrown three touchdown passes in each game. The Vikings are going to throw the ball a lot. In the Vikings first game of the season, Cousins put the ball up 49 times.

So look for the Browns and Garrett to do what they do best and wreak havoc in the backfield. Unlike, the Bears game when they faced off against a rookie quarterback in Justin Fields, this week will be a lot different. But if Garrett and bring that same inspiration from a week ago I have no doubt this game can be controlled again by players like Garrett.
