Cleveland Browns: Week 4 grades after defense shines again
By Greg Newland
The Cleveland Browns shined in a few areas on Sunday but struggled in others. Although the team got the win, they must continue to improve.
The Cleveland Browns had another one of those ugly wins that leaves a bad taste in your mouth on Monday morning. The defense was so good once again, but the offense just was not clicking at all.
But hey, a win is a win, and after the 14-7 narrow victory on the road, the Browns will get prepared to travel to Los Angeles to face the Chargers in a very difficult week five matchup.
Please keep reading to see how each component of the team graded out in the Browns week four victory.
Cleveland Browns Special Teams: A
Honestly, the special teams won the game for the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Once again, Chase McLaughlin was clutch with a 48-yard field goal in the second quarter, and a 53-yard field goal in the fourth quarter that all but sealed the deal.
Another extremely impressive part of the Browns special teams continues to be their coverage teams. On 7 punts, the Vikings only had two returns for a total of 11 yards, and they only had 26 kickoff return yards on their loan return.
I will admit, Jamie Gillan did a great job of putting three of his seven punts inside the 20, but he still hasn’t had quite the distance I would like to see. His 39.9-yard average punt is less than desirable for the Browns.
The return game for the Browns wasn’t as great on Sunday either. Demetric Felton had five punt returns for 25 total yards. After a great week last week, he got a little too excited and ran lateral more than he did vertical on Sunday.
The bottom line, the Browns have a kicker in McLaughlin, and his strong performance brings the entire unit’s grade up on Sunday.
