With the Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield recovering from a shoulder injury, overreaction to that and his recent game are becoming par for the course

Cleveland Browns fans — news flash!

The sky isn’t falling.

However, If you read the headlines in recent days on Cleveland Browns quarterback, you’d think the end of days is coming. It’s so ridiculous the amount of overreaction to Baker Mayfield’s recent game at the Minnesota Vikings. Yes, he stunk and he himself admitted to that right away and has continued to say it was an awful game for him.

Yes, Mayfield suffered a shoulder injury almost three weeks ago that now no one can stop talking about. I’m sure it might be bothering him but as Browns writer from ESPN Jake Trotter reported this week on the minimal effects of the injury as noted by Mayfield’s offensive coordinator coach Alex Van Pelt.

Maybe, because I’m in that older generation of Browns fans now, that I can appreciate more what benefit Mayfield has brought to the team and organization in recent years, I don’t find it very productive to read headlines this past week about Mayfield’s failures.

Headlines like: “Mayfield is getting worse under pressure and it’s not a new trend.” Or “Baker Mayfield and cloudy future”.

Why do those in the media sphere, especially one’s that are supposedly supporting the team from the local media markets want to quickly do away with Mayfield?

The Browns are 3-1. I repeat, the Browns are 3-1 on the season. Those of you out there continually trying to find reasons to part ways with a player that is honestly and factually better than any Cleveland quarterback in recent memory and stacks up better, even to the few quarterbacks Browns fans always reference from the past, like Bernie Kosar and Brian Sipe (I’ll leave the legendary Otto Graham out of this discussion really need to distribute your time and energy to some greater good.

Mayfield has always been a magnet of controversy, maybe due to his own making but in large part due to those that just don’t seem to like the guy.

Let’s discuss a few things historically in Browns history with our quarterbacks and some history reviews on Mayfield’s career and maybe you won’t all be panicking, even more, this next weekend, after the Browns face off against the Los Angeles Chargers.
