The Cleveland Browns will be without Nick Chubb for the second game in a row as he’s going to miss their contest against the Denver Broncos on Thursday night

There wasn’t much hope that Nick Chubb was going to be able to play this Thursday night when the Cleveland Browns host the Denver Broncos. Now, it’s official that he will miss the game as Cleveland announced he was out for Week 7 due to his calf injury.

In addition to Chubb being out, Cleveland also had Baker Mayfield listed as a limited participant in practice Tuesday. Mayfield suffered a partially torn shoulder labrum in Week 2 and then re-aggravated the injury when he landed awkwardly on that same arm when being sacked by J.J. Watt.

Mayfield is expected to play still and calls for him to rest make little sense. Mayfield’s injury is classified as a tear, meaning it won’t heal with time off. It’s going to require surgery and the Browns quarterback has made it clear that he wants to play through the pain, and will likely continue to do so.

Other injuries have decimated Cleveland’s roster as well, including the loss of Kareem Hunt who was injured in Week 6 while filling in for Chubb. He was placed on the IR, as was rookie linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.

In order to get through their upcoming game, or longer, the Browns signed Josh Kelly from their practice squad to add some depth at running back.

At 3-3, the Browns are in desperate need of a win to stay within striking distance of the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals. Injuries are never timely, but it’s hard to think of a worse time to lose so many key players for a team.
