Cleveland Browns: 3 quarterback options if Baker Mayfield misses season

If Baker Mayfield is unable to come back in 2021 for the Cleveland Browns, they could go after one of these three players

There was some upsetting news just ahead of the Cleveland Browns Thursday night game against Denver. Jay Glazer on the FOX pregame show let it be known that in addition to his partially torn labrum, Baker Mayfield also had a fracture in his humerus bone.

After saying this, Glazer added that Mayfield was going to need the bone to heal before he could suit up again since his rotator cuff was “not firing.”

No one will ever question Mayfield’s toughness as he has shown time and again that he will play through pain. However, a fracture and a tear in the same shoulder is concerning and that could lead to him missing much of the remainder of the season, if not all of it.

Of course, only time will tell if that’s the case but if it is, the Browns could be in the market for more help at quarterback in addition to Case Keenum and Nick Mullens. Here we look at three possible veteran additions to help in case of an emergency.

Cleveland Browns potential trade target: Andy Dalton, Chicago Bears

Andy Dalton is no stranger to the Cleveland organization. He spent nine seasons as a starter for their in-state rivals, the Cincinnati Bengals before heading to Dallas last season.

He’s also no stranger to filling in for a hurt player since he started nine games for the Cowboys with Dak Prescott out in 2020. Dalton played well with 2,170 yards and a 14-to-8 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

His performance got him a shot as the starter for the Chicago Bears but he lost his job to Justin Fields after suffering an injury early on. Chicago also has Nick Foles as a backup so they could be willing to part with Dalton who has a higher contract that ends after this season. That could also help the Browns who might be able to bargain shop and get a player with 144 starts for a mid-round pick.
