Cleveland Browns Round 4 pick: Amari Gainer, LB, Florida State

For the past couple of seasons, the linebacker position has been a bit of a sour spot for the Browns. They have struggled with health as Jacob Phillips missed time both this season and last. They also had Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah go down after missing out on Anthony Walker for the start of the season.

In an effort to continue to build depth at this spot, Cleveland goes with Amari Gainer in this mock. Gainer is similar in mold to JOK, although he’s a bit bigger at 6-foot-3 and 237-pounds. He’s also spent time as a safety during his time with the Seminoles.

His ability to cover tight ends and running backs out of the backfield is what makes him an ideal fit with the Browns who continue to add athleticism to their defensive depth chart.

Injuries on the offensive line have also been an issue as Cleveland has constantly had to turn to their reserves with Blake Hance constantly in the lineup — and James Hudson has made several appearances as well.

In an effort to build more depth, they use their second pick in the fourth round on Tyler Smith from Tulsa. Smith is 6-foot-5 and 332-pounds and has played both inside and out in his career making him a versatile backup.

He’s also a high-energy guy that sets the tone. Adding him to an already aggressive offensive line will only make the unit better.
